Oh, Miss Mustard Seed

Last week I posted pictures of a lovely chair I was working and thought I could finish right up.  The chair itself did not need much work but unfortunately, I underestimated the difficulty of the sewing portion!

Here is the before.....

When I found this beauty she was painted an antique speckled gold.  She was probably very grand in her day but now, the paint chipping off, she was filthy, and and although the bottom cushion was in great shape there was no cushion for the seat.  No problem, right?!

Here she is after my first attempt with the cushion....

A little sad and flat looking!  Oh, and bumpy, lumpy, and just not right!  Aaargh!

For those of you that follow Miss Mustard Seed, I kept thinking about her recent post on glazing.  Basically she said that it always looks really bad at some point and you just have to keep moving and know it will look better in the end.  I believe that's true with sewing and upholstery too....at least that's what I kept telling myself!

I went back to the sewing machine and tried again. And again! lthough I KNOW I am not a seamstress or upholsterer at heart, I am pretty happy with how far this little beauty has come.  What do you think?

And the now.....

I picked a shimmery paint to give it a little sparkle but went with a very tradition creamy fabric that I picked up off the Hancock's clearance rack last year for just pennies!  I think this chair has the potential to be SO classy but needed a little kick of fun too!

I am NOT a seamstress (or a photographer either) but, I am pretty happy with how she looking these days!  I still think it needs a little throw pillow for some extra texture but, I plan on working with other power tools today and giving my little sewing machine a much deserved break!!

Have a great day!  And thanks again Marian for the boost of confidence!

  1. I love Mustard Seed too, she's got some great stuff!
You made an amazing improvement from the first try lady! I've only done a couple bar stools, I can't imagine doing something with an actual shape to it other than a square! And you even did the piping! I'm impressed!
