5 drawer gray & navy dresser with mirror

This 5 drawer dresser with mirror has been in the garage a couple of weeks now.  Initially I thought I'd go white with pretty pink flower knobs but the more I looked at it, the more I thought it just looked like it needed something a little more...boy!

Navy & blue are two colors that just always say boy to me.  Not that they can't be girly but, add a few stripes and I have flashbacks of buying little boy shirts for the first oh, 5 years of my son's life!

After sanding and priming of course, I started by painting the whole thing navy.   My husband and son thought it looked great but, something just wasn't quite doing it for me.  So, I taped off where I thought the stripes should go and then painted two coats of gray over the top.  I pulled off the taped, touched up the lines and loved it!

Then it was time to figure out something for the knobs.  It had great wooden knobs but, of course, one was missing!  I had a spare knob that was just the right size but they needed a little paint to transform them.  I saw some knobs at Hobby Lobby that had a compass rose but where too large and white but served as great inspiration.  I spray primed them and them painted them gray.  I got the smallest brush I could find and used the navy to paint the outline of the compass and then went back and filled in the gray to shade it.  Then I clear coated them with a spray craft sealer.  I was seriously having my doubts until my Cowboy walked by and said, "Hey cool! What are these for?  They're pretty cool." I think that's a good sign so I was even more thrilled when I found a nautical themed fabric that is red, blue, gray & white to line all the drawers with.

So, what do you think?

It's so rainy and dreary outside I had to take the after pics in the kitchen. Not the best for lighting or  the reflection in the mirror so please ignore all that! :)

Have a great Thursday!

Adorable chair - too cute to pass on!

The other day while Meg and I were out at one of our favorite hot spots, we stopped to look at something and this adorable chair was just staring right back at me....I could NOT pass it up!  I thought it would be perfect for Sugar Bug's desk and I couldn't wait to get it home.

Needless to say, Sugar Bug did NOT love it and the seat was a little wide for the knee hole anyway.  Hhmm, I was a little sad.  It's just so stinkin' cute but, not meant for me.  Anyway, it's now available at Artichoke Alley so if you're interested, please e-mail us at ArtichokeAlley@hotmail.com

Dressers delivered to my doorstep!

There's nothing better than opening the door to a delivery of beautiful furniture!

Melissa had contacted me last week about some custom work she'd like done but with conflicting schedules, tonight was the best time to get them in the garage and make all the coordination.  So, when she pulled up and out came this beauty, I was so thrilled.  Some girls like shoes, some like purse but me, I like furniture (and dishes, and chocolate...)!

And then she came back with this.....

And there will be more tomorrow!  Does it get any better?!

I hope the weather man is wrong this week.  If it would only rain at night, I would greatly appreciate it!  I really have some painting to get done!

Have a good one!

Spring fever shows up in the furniture!

Here are a few before and after pics of some recent Spring fever projects.  These were started on Valentine's Day when Meg (my fabulous sister who is always willing to go with me on crazy adventures) and I followed up on a Craigslist posting.  The last thing I really needed to be doing that day was shopping but, it was well worth it in the end!

In case you missed it, here's an excerpt from the original post....

So, I called and talked to the very nice college student who was selling these.  She said to come on over and meet her at her apartment because she was on her way home from class.  As she tried to open the door, the chain caught.  She looked puzzled, knocked and the door swung slightly open giving us a quick glimpse of sprinkled rose petals!  Aaargh.....we walked into a Valentine's surprise!  AWKWARD!

Meg and I backed off and the girl disappeared into the apartment.  We both giggled and were heading back down the stairs figuring we wouldn't be picking any furniture up today, when she called out to us to come on in.  Hmmmm, really?!?!  Meg looked at me like I was crazy as I tentatively opened the door not knowing quite what to expect!

Anyway, the boyfriend was gone, the roommate was home, and apparently the stage was just being set for later in the day (wink! wink!).   I don't think I've ever loaded a dining room table, 4 chairs, and 2 end tables down a flight of stairs so fast and I know I usually negotiate and inspect things much more closely!  Oh well.  The whole thing just still makes me laugh and now I have these to show for it:

With Spring fever really kicking in, here is the table and chairs after a total refab!

And then there were these:

Glamorous cherry buffet

This awesome buffet has gone to live with my friend Jennifer and her family.  Jen's gorgeous dining room has beautiful hardwoods, chair molding, and the sensationally striking navy blue and white paint combination.  This buffet was the perfect compliment to the furniture she had but needed a little love to spiff her back up.  You can tell from the before pictures, she had great bones but she'd been loved and I think a little neglected.

We used steel wool, sandpaper, denatured alcohol, nail polish remover, polish, stain, wax, wood glue, and a few other tools of the trade to really get her back to shining!  Oh, and we had to replace those pulls on the doors too (they were AWFUL).  She is now gloriously glamorous and fits perfectly in Jen's home!

This delivery made a gloomy rainy day bright and cheerful!

Thanks again Jen (and Vic too)!
